By looking at how Dan Mann is grinning, you will definitely get the vibe that spring is indeed here with us. His grin escalates further when the thought of taking part in the season opener at the electric speedway comes into mind.
For over a quarter century now, Mann has been fascinated with the electric speedway in fact him and his wife Barbara bought a racetrack as well as living quarters 26 years ago on his wife’s birthday.
Dan Mann recalls the event by stating that, “I was a full-time Realtor back then, and I couldn't find anyone else to buy it, so somebody said, 'Why don't you buy it?' And I told him I didn't have any money, so he told me to offer him nothing down. So we did, and they did.”
"She does all the hiring," he said. "Not the guys down in the dirt, but all of the concessions help, the gate help and all that. She does a lot of work here. Plus she sells all our advertising, and I don't do that. And our kids have been involved since we took over. Elizabeth (their daughter) was 14 when we started here."
Mann, who is now semi-retired, has been behind the wheels of a number of a number vehicles including passenger cars, school buses and even tracks which carry water and he is known to get behind the wheels of a few race cars from time to time.
"I had been in the pits two or three times over the years with one guy or another, but nothing ever stuck," he said. "I was kind of afraid to go down there because I had heard they're kind of rough and tough.
