R. Crampton Wins Top Fuel at NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway

Richie Crampton became the winner of the Top Fuel class at the recent Amalie NHRA Gatornationals held at the Gainesville Raceway. R. Crampton was the 10th fastest qualifier of the event. He battled Shawn Reed, who had the 12th fastest time. Along their way to the final race, they shut down favorites Antron Brown, Steve Torrence, Tony Schumacher, Brittany Force, and Leah Pritchett. In the first round, R. Crampton had to win over his teammate Doug Kalitta.

However, the final race was not as exciting as everyone in the venue hoped it would be. Reed’s dragster suffered a fuel leak on the starting line, and the Kalitta Air/DHL dragster driven by R. Crampton blazed through the track alone for a time of 3.854 seconds. It was his first career win at the Gainesville Raceway.

Surprise Win for R. Crampton

R. Crampton didn’t expect he would be bringing the trophy home that day. He was out last season and he was not sure he would have the chance to drive competitively again. He said he didn’t expect to be driving for the team when he answered the recruitment call. He also said that he would work hard to make sure he deserves to drive for the team.

He was glad to be part of competitive racing again, and he didn’t waste the chance team owner Connie Kalitta gave him. Although he was unopposed during the finals, he still bested some of the best drivers in the scene today to gain the slot at the finals.

It was Shawn Reed’s first career final round. He defeated top qualifier Clay Millican to earn the spot at the final race. It was unfortunate that his car experienced mechanical trouble at the starting line.
