Dave House, at 75, Leads the IMSA Prototype Challenge

Dave House got his first career win in the IMSA Prototype Challenge. At 75 years old, he became the oldest winner in the race’s history. The win came less than a week after he turned 75 years old. The win also gave him the lead in the series standings after finishing sixth in the first race of the series at Daytona.

House beat his ONE Motorsports teammate Paul LaHaye by only 13.507 seconds while driving the Elan DP02 powered by Mazda. He said that it was a clean race, and was fortunate to have a car that was in good racing condition throughout the race.

Riding in the No. 86, House was toe to toe with Dr. Robert Masson and Wyatt Schwab of Performance Tech Motorsports throughout the race. Both Masson and Schwab ran into different mechanical issues while they were leading the race, which gave House an opening to win it.

Dave House used to be a longtime executive for various Silicon Valley companies that include Intel and Bay Networks. At present, he is the Brocade Networks’ Chairman of the Board, as well as a member of various nonprofit and educational boards. He is the owner of House Family Winery and Mountain Winery’s managing partner.

When not driving in a prototype race car, he is a yachtsman and a heliskier. Those might be the reason why he didn’t have any trouble during the IMSA race. He drove without a co-driver in one of the most challenging road courses in North America.

House said that he didn’t find it difficult to drive the one hour and 45-minute race during the daytime because he was used to driving at night for three hours. He thanked his trainer for keeping him in good shape, which he attributed to his win despite being the oldest driver on the track.
